Controllers:  One of the most effective but most frequently overlooked ways of controlling costs and equalizing competition is to place tight restrictions on controllers.  For a race program encompassing the three classes described above it works very well to require the exclusive use of the Parma 45-ohm home racing controller as the “spec” controller for all events.  This is a durable and repairable controller that retails for about $25.   It can be purchased rewired with plug connectors for any of the current plastic track systems and comes in a variety of handle colors so you can have a different color for each lane.

The 45-ohm Parma works very well with the cars in the Box-stock and TransAm classes. It is not quite optimum for the Group C class, but works well enough with those cars.  Thus, even a person racing in all three classes will need only one inexpensive controller.  In fact, you can simply buy a set of these controllers for your track and have them on hand for each race, so the racers will not need to have their own controllers at all if they prefer not to.
